The mission of the SC Respite Coalition is to expand quality respite opportunities in South Carolina throughout the lifespan for South Carolina families who have a member with special needs.
Respite is a temporary, short break from providing hands-on care for a loved one who has a significant disability, special need or chronic illness. It is a chance for caregivers to rest, relax and recharge. It reduces fatigue, stress and isolation, improves caregiver health, stabilizes families, and helps avoid or delay costly out-of-home care placements.
The Coalition’s goals are to:
- Educate the general public and specific groups about the need for respite care
- Develop strategies to provide and improve respite services for families.
- Provide support for families and providers through coordinated information resources.
